Well we made our annual pilgrimage to South Texas this weekend to chase hogs and stinkalinas. After nearly getting skunked last year, we were trying to be optimistic for this years trip. This ranch was loaded with javis, but not too many hogs. Quite a few in the group had their limit of two javis before the sun set the first afternoon. I had two new hunters with me so they were given every opportunity that we could find. (And I have killed the stinking things before, so I knew what I was missing....or not missing!
)
Darren was the first to connect and he had his second bow kill. Shortly thereafter, Craig made an awesome shot to get his first bowkill under his belt. While we were cleaning Craigs, I had another javi approach the road and took the opportunity to get a few fleas for myself! Darren came up missing but came back draggin his second as well.
On Saturday morning, I pulled out the recurve, took a few practice shots and was ready to go. I will admit that I shot over the backs of the first 4 javis that morning. I stood behind a tree and waited for another group to approach and made my fifth shot count. My first kill with my recurve! I may have to get serious about it someday.
