Don't know how big but looks like a heck of a fish and really looks like a blast on that flyrod.

I see what you did there.

OP that was awesome and terrible at the same time. From the little bit I could see I would guess it to be around 4-5 lbs

My guess as well with some nice stout shoulders. What make of rod were you using?

It’s hard to tell, I’d guess 22-24”. Those bigger fish seem to come unbuttoned a bunch, especially if you put a lot of pressure on them.

Very nice fish and "big enouh"! Next time, instead of trying to back her out on the beach, wade out and get deep enough to land her to your hand... Hard to beach a sow trout like that!

I couldn't judge it's length/weight. But in this link, there is a graph of length to weight ratio. It's a good chart for the tackle box. https://gcrl.usm.edu/public/fish/spotted.seatrout.php

What were you using for bait?

Not sure if you could with 9wt, but when we surf-fish and are that close to the sand, we pull the fish on the beach without a net. If you time it right, you can use a little wave to push the fish up. We have a lot less of those pop-offs at the shore line. Now if we are reeling in hog, we'll get someone else in there with a net.
