    Close call today!

Went turkey hunting this morning, but couldn’t get a gobbler to commit. Walked around looking for some sheds and found some older ones and then headed to the camp to put them on our “shed tree”.

Got out of the truck, walked around to open the camper and heard the terrifying ‘BUZZZZZZZZ’, jumped in the air because I already knew what it was and looked down and saw a little rattler up in defense mode about 2 feet away from me. Way too close to camp for comfort.

Walked the camp to check for others and found the second big guy which I think is a Racer? He was about 5-6 foot long and very docile.

The rattler was quickly dispatched with a 12 gauge turkey shell

He was about 2.5 foot long

That racer is cool. Leave the racer be so he can eat the rats and mice

Oh yea. I never kill the non-poisonous ones. He was left up in his mesquite tree to assist us with the mouse problem.

seems like anytime we see a few of the small rattle bugs around theres generally a coachwhip in the area. may just be coincidence for me though

They den up together. But coachwhips will eat rattlesnakes when they're not dormant.

Have been finding a lot of timber rattlers out and about in Grayson county the past week.
