    Plumbing rough in question

Having a slab poured for an outdoor kitchen and restroom. Do I leave a space around the drains? I have seen square frames with sand. Or can the concrete be poured right to them?

Either way will work, your preference.

Wrap some bubble wrap around the pipe a few times that’s what we did when I used to work construction.

Concrete can be poured right to them except for a shower are tub drain you would want to put a cardboard box around them so you can set the shower or tub drain later

Put them in a box if you'll need to adjust slightly later on. If you're pouring concrete up against them, wrap them in something. duct tape is enough, but you dont want the concrete to adhere to the pipe.

I usually put a box 4-6x the diameter of the pipe around them and fill with sand.

That way if you need to make adjustments it’s easy to do. After the slab is poured and your pipe is set where it needs to be dig some of the sand out an top it with some lightweight concrete.
