Obviously, there are 24 beers in a case. The question is: who's asking the question?-- such as wife, etc. This may govern the answer and require various interpretations of the response. For instance, some beers come in a 32-ounce can. If you "only" drank a six-pack of those.....

Case is 24, always has been to my knowledge. FYI, used to homebrew and scrounged case boxes to keep the bottles in. Had about 10 case boxes that only held 20. I assume those were from the beer companies padding their margins by selling smaller cases for similar money.
