    Electronics Help

I have an RCA Dolby Surround sound system that I've had for 8 or so years now. It started messing up a year or so ago and now won't do anything. When it was going out, I could only select certain "modes" for it to play in. All the others just made a humming noise through the speakers. Can I take something like this in to get fixed? Or is it something that just goes out and you go buy a new one?

If it's an internal electronic problem and not the kids/ wife pushed a lot of buttons the wrong way, it would probably be cheaper to buy something newer with the latest features and goodies instead of repairing the old one. What else does it do besides Dolbey?

One option would be to contact the local high school vo-tech school near you and speak to the electronics department person and ask if they'd give it a try in a class project- supervised of course.

In the long run you will be better off replacing it with a new one. Sometimes that is even the cheaper route also. It is unreal the cost of repairing some of the internal items compared to just a replacement of the whole thing!!

      Good luck,

If u could find a RCA aurthorize dealer you might could get it fixed. It really doesnt sound like a easy fix, You could probably get a newer one with better features for what it would cost to fix that one. 20yrs ago I worked in a RCA dealer repair shop. U would be lucky to get it fixed for less than a $100 and still have a old system.

If its eight years old its probably time to just buy a new one! You will proabably spend at least $100 to fix that one. You might as well spend another $100 and buy and inexpensive one that is probably a hundred times better than the one you have now.
