Unfortunately, they were all gone within a day or three.

Would like to give it another try but haven’t come up with a better plan to help them develop their adaptive response mechanism.
    Releasing tame birds doesn’t work.

Yep, all you accomplish is giving predators easy meals.

Just jumping in on this thread but we started raising chickens 2 years ago with some chicks one of my wife’s coworkers hatched in a classroom. Out of 7 chicks we ended up with 4 roosters and 3 hens, so we culled 3 roosters and added 3 more hens. Up until last month we had never lost one to a predator. It just so happened the first one I lost was 18 days into sitting on 8 eggs I was hoping to hatch, now forward a month and I’m down to one hen and a rooster left. I have more chicks on order but first I need to get rid of the problem. He has been around a few years and even sat down in the pasture 100 yards from us in the middle of the afternoon watching us as we were painting the coop 2 years ago. My parents and uncle who are neighbors enjoy watching him so I told them I would let him be until he became a problem, now the time has come.

I have 4 chickens and still waiting on eggs. Bought 1 older bird and 3 younger pullets hoping to have eggs trickle in but only got 1 in a month. Hoping they all start soon

                  2020 Chicken Raising Thread

I’ve had chickens for a little over 4 years. Started with a tractor supply coop then build and added added on several times to mine. Currently have 13 chickens of various kinds.
I can close off 1 section in the back. I let grass grow there, it leads to a temporary place for grass and I can shut it off to integrate new checks. Just added 4 new ones. Have 2 feeder tubes and 1 automatic water station part is covered by tin to give them a had shade. Need to fix the roof it leaks too much.

                      Not yet

I overbuilt .. outside bottom boards buried in 12 inch concrete. Bottom part of fence is 1/4 inch hardware cloth all the way

Did have a small problem before I added the hardware cloth at the bottom
