Some industries, producers of household cleaning products, canned and frozen foods and grocery stores are making a boon at the moment. Maybe some of their additional profits should be used to fund small business, restaurants, local entertainment and the debt can be repaid with a small interest "thank you" at some point in the future. Don't have the logistics worked out at the moment but am sure it could be done in an emergency situation.

You think Johnson and Johnson, HEB are going to help small businesses? Just fund them for free? That would be epic.

Maybe this "crisis" should be a wake up call that people should take more responsibility of their own lives by reducing their debt loads, have an emergency fund of at least several months worth of living expenses set aside and stop expecting "free" handouts.

. Not necessarily out of the goodness of the hearts. With the things that are going on it would be a great humanitarian gesture, which would likely payoff later - brand loyalty for their generosity. But as I mentioned, it would also include payback with a small interest factor.

This is one of the most important things I think we should learn from this ordeal, as individuals and a nation, and hopefully it happens if only in a small degree!

Its not a big deal according to some here on TBH that people are losing their jobs and businesses. Just as simple as rebuilding a business it took a lifetime to build or finding a new job.

If you are in the industry (and its not government work) its very clear where the root problem is. Basically its the same people that complain about manufacturing in lower income countries but then purchase anything on Amazon. You can't have both.
I agree with this. My family and I buy as much American as possible. From our clothes, shoes, food, and what ever we can. Sometimes its almost impossible but we try.

I like the idea of a TBH happy hour.

That would require common sense and self control, have you looked around you in the last 20 years, not something encouraged anymore, it's a ME society, not a WE society.

I see that a few business's are starting to push back on the mandatory closure. I think if challenged they would certainly win (bar/restaurant owners). Thinking they just expected people to comply. Interesting to watch

                        Yep.

City of Abilene announced yesterday that they are not going to adopt the CDC recommendations of shutting everything down to 10 person groups, etc... We're sticking with 200-person max limit. There are zero confirmed cases so far in Abilene. No need to take away the livelihoods of all the small business owners and hourly employees in the local economy for no reason. Lots of businesses and organizations are altering their practices to limit in-person contact, and that's great. But they're doing it on their own, rather than government forcing them to. They're able to find ways to be cautious that fit their individual operations and needs, rather than being forced into a cookie-cutter government mandate. And lots of shoppers and consumers are adjusting their shopping and dining habits according to their own comfort levels too. So businesses are likely suffering from less traffic already anyway, but at least they're still able to remain open and do as much business as their customers are comfortable with right now.

Never in the history of this country has our government ever inflicted so much damage and on its own people.. There is 7.7 BILLION people on this ball we call earth and less than 200,000 cases of this crap on that same ball and America now has a CLOSED sign hanging on her door.. Thousands of people have already lost jobs and thousands more will.. Businesses are shutting down and countless more will. Stress levels are through the roof and people are
Mentally imploding.. I won't even get into the politics of it..
I'm a positive guy but I'm also a realist and there is no need to candy coat this dumpster fire... It's making history for a reason and my prediction is it will do much irreversible damage to this country.. We are 1 day into what I consider to be borderline socialism.. All that was accomplished with a few strokes of a
Pen.. Pretty **** incredible if you ask me so if the people that are catching the brunt of this want to moan and complain then most of them have earned that right. Y'all carry on.. At this moment I'm just praying for the best outcome possible. Whatever that may be..

Meanwhile the southern boarder is still wide open.. Funny how that can go from such a hot topic a few months ago to total silence now that we really need it. That is if all we are being fed is true. Makes 0 sense.. None of it.
YOU are exactly the kind of person who is going to need to be drug across the finish line with this. I feel bad for your family to have to listen to your defeatist attitude.

Some great responses from when I 1st did the OP. I put this up as originally stated because I/we really feel bad for the small business owners, specifically for our friends with the small café.

It's "easier" to point fingers at those who are not prepared or those who don't share the empathy mentioned for those who's lives are being shattered. But, they are there and there will be many more in the future.

Shane, as many who have mentioned your post/article, hope is there for the future so thanks for sharing! As the days progress the paranoia will get worse and in one way or another it will affect us all, no doubt?

My wife and I are not hoarding, but we have prepared for the future depending how this plays out. I personally am in the so called "high risk" percentage due to age and existing medical conditions. I can reflect on the LEO/Tactical Medic days when we were exposed to infections we did not even realize were there. Survived those days but now, different world I guess.

At 67, wife 60, we are doing our best to be smart and NOT ignore what's happening? As many of you know, our youngest is active military and after talking to him the past few days....well, they are taking this situation seriously and that's all I can really say.

So, discount all you want, laugh all you want, but be prepared and take care of yourself, family and help others if you are able? The time is now, not yesterday, really tomorrow and the "hysteria" or whatever you want to call it is relevant to so many.

Just be smart and don't be "a bad A..," be aware and protect yourself and your loved ones folks!!

And another thing, make it law that unions could not organize at any facility where the known profit margins are less than 25% ( that should include just about every manufacture in the country). They are the reason most of these companies left in the first place.

But the biggest thing, make it law that the gov. could not tax business more than 10 -15%. another huge reason they left in the first place.
