    Bino question..

Looking at buying some new binos. Have a pair of vortex and really happy with them and the customer svc. Looking at 12x50s for western on tripod. Question is diamondback HD vs viper. Is the upgrade worth the money? If anyone has a pair they want to part with let me know. I might have something worth trading for.

Viper HD all day!! Diamondback is good for around here but out west Viper will blow the DB away in clarity and lighting. Contact Arrowsmith on here for Vortex prices. He’s awesome to deal with.

I used a set of vipers this year on a tripod. Get ready for eye fatigue if you glass for very long.

I answered in your other thread but I’ll answer here as well.

To answer your question, yes there is a noticeable difference between Diamondback and Viper HD glass. If you are going to be glassing out west, I’d even recommend picking up a set of used Razors. Your eyes will thank you after several hours of glassing.

Noticable difference in glass. Between the Diamondback and the Vipers. Out of those 2.. Vipers just clearer.

Razors if you can.. at least 12x50. My next trip will either have a spotter or 18x50s.

AZ is way more wide open than the Hill Country where I hunt.

I have the Vulture HD 15x56 and have been really pleased with them. They are a little less than the Viper HD, maybe $100.

I’ll look at those as well. Vultures look to be middle road between the diamondback and viper lines , but only offered in 15x56. Anyone else have an opinion on these?

Vipers for sure. The razors are real nice for the money too

Since your question was on the line of Vortex products, I would recommend Vipers. Get as good of glass as you can afford. And get with Arrowsmith, he has good deals. He was ~$100 cheaper on the UHD's then most places.

Honestly, 12x52s are big for out west. I would go 10x42 at the most for binos if you are going to walk with them on your chest. Anything above 10x, you gotta worry about shaking while your glassing if you aren't using a tripod.

I'd have to disagree on the part about using 12's out west. I hunt out west extensively every year. If I'm archery elk hunting then I have 8x32's on my chest. If I'm doing pretty much anything else out west then I have 12x50's on my chest. The 12's are probably my favorite (and most used) bino's that I have ever owned. Crazy awesome.

Where I will agree with you on the virtues of 8's or 10's versus 12's is in mid to low level glass like the bino's being discussed. The higher magnification glass has led to crazy eye fatigue for me when I've had to use that level of glass.

They will be heavy for carrying all day.
