Looking at buying some new binos. Have a pair of vortex and really happy with them and the customer svc. Looking at 12x50s for western on tripod. Question is diamondback HD vs viper. Is the upgrade worth the money? If anyone has a pair they want to part with let me know. I might have something worth trading for.

I answered in your other thread but I’ll answer here as well.
To answer your question, yes there is a noticeable difference between Diamondback and Viper HD glass. If you are going to be glassing out west, I’d even recommend picking up a set of used Razors. Your eyes will thank you after several hours of glassing.

Noticable difference in glass. Between the Diamondback and the Vipers. Out of those 2.. Vipers just clearer.
Razors if you can.. at least 12x50. My next trip will either have a spotter or 18x50s.
AZ is way more wide open than the Hill Country where I hunt.

Honestly, 12x52s are big for out west. I would go 10x42 at the most for binos if you are going to walk with them on your chest. Anything above 10x, you gotta worry about shaking while your glassing if you aren't using a tripod.

Where I will agree with you on the virtues of 8's or 10's versus 12's is in mid to low level glass like the bino's being discussed. The higher magnification glass has led to crazy eye fatigue for me when I've had to use that level of glass.

They will be heavy for carrying all day.
