    boat engine issues

Hoping for some help on my boat from the G/S.

I have a Mercury 65 hp. It will bog down when I engage the throttle. However, if I keep pushing the choke in every second I can get up to roughly 20 mph and 4200 rpms and stay at that speed fairly constantly.

From what I've read it may be a clog in the fuel line, or the carb and the main jet.

I was informed that if I clean the carb I will probably have to put in new gaskets.

    Does anybody have any advice?

How long has it sat up??? Thus new gas is horrible

Fuel filter? Have you run seafoam or other treatment through it yet? Could be carb also as you stated.

IMO, add some fresh gas with seafoam and see what it does.

Probably what your thinking and depending on age could be gaskets swelling from new gas.

Sounds like the high speed jet is clogged. My dads was doing this also on his 40 mercury a couple years ago. We took the carbs off and cleaned them and ran a small torch cleaning wire through the jets. It worked perfectly. You will probably need to order a gasket kit most likely.

Take your hand and choke it a few times off of idle. Lots of times it will suck whatever stuck in the jet thru. . No disassembly needed.

Drain gas tank- goto QT and get a fill up with real gas- no ethanol- add some Sea Foam- Go run it for a while.

Also choke it off like Kingfisher said before and see if that helps- Id still run it as above to get any residue out.

My 150 was doing the same thing last year ended up being a bad gasket. It would choke down when trying to accerate and just die out running full speed. I would squeeze the bulb and it would take off but not dependable. After 4 times in shop just caved in and bought a new motor.

Mine would do the same. A few tanks with seafoam in it and i was impressed. Seafoam is the bomb

Overhaul the carb, making sure every jet and orifice is sparkling clean. You need aerosol carbcleaner and air hose/ nozzle to blow it out. Probably best to put a kit in it anyway.

Check for dirt dauber nest in the exhaust side along with all the fuel side suggestions.

My former boat mech buddy said he made thousands off people with simply using Chemtool B12 to clean the carb.

My motor was bogging down and dying two weekends ago at GRXH and it was because my fuel line isnt marrying properly to the tank and is allowing air in the lines. Same darn quicksilver tank fuel line hookup broke seal between it and the tank and lets rain water into the fuel.

I would try seafoam first . But it sounds like your carburetor that’s what my boat was doing when I bought it 2 yrs ago. Ran perfect after a good cleaning
