    bad question (silencer)

    1. How long do they work/last?
I heard a rumor that there's a limit/number of bullets shot before it stops working?
I don't think it's true, because what a pain in arse that would be and not worth all the paper work, fees and wait time....

    2. Can someone walk me through how to get one? I know I need to open a "Trust" and some paperwork and such, but how? go to a bank for the trust and online for the forms?
who opens trusts and helps with the papers close to me?

Higher a lawyer that specializes in Firearm Trust. It's my understanding, the "wait" time, is for your application and background check to be completed by the Federal Government. They have a reputation of being inefficient to maintain.

      15) WHAT KIND OF LIFESPAN CAN I EXPECT FROM YOUR SUPPRESSORS?
      10/22/2012 by
Our user-serviceable silencers, which include all of our current rimfire silencers and the Ti-RANT series of pistol silencers, have the ability to be taken apart and serviced by the end user. A take-apart silencer that is maintained in accordance with the owner’s manual will last a lifetime. Our rifle silencers feature fully welded cores and are constructed using advanced metals to aid in the durability. We have tested silencers in excess of 30,000 rounds that have had no noticeable degradation in overall sound quality. With all silencers, lifespan is determined by several factors, including caliber, barrel length, muzzle device, and firing schedule, so there is no definitive answer regarding lifespan. Your silencer will typically outlast several barrels on your host firearms.

However I didn't use this service whenever I bought my first I definitely would have if they had it then. Capitol armory is a very easy to work with company.

          For most people: forever.

I just ordered my first one last month. Call SilencerShop they were great and walked me through it no problems.

You can do it all through SilencerShop.com or give them a call. Super easy just a long wait time to actually get it.

Back in the day there was a style of silencer that used little rubber washers called "wipes" at the end of the can, basically it would give a better gas seal and make the shot super quiet.

The wipes would wear out within a few shots and it would still suppress the shot just not nearly as much.

So that's where the idea that silencers wear out quick comes from, wipes are super uncommon in cans now though

If you have an ammo bill high enough to wear out a can then the suppressor is the least of your worries.

You absolutely can wear a can out. The thing is the vast majority of people will never put enough rounds through their cans in hard enough conditions to get any measurable wear, much less wear that actually negatively impacts its performance. I’ve seen cans with 40-50k through them mostly FA that didn’t have enough wear to negatively impact them. Now run that same 40-50k through semi auto fire and a 16-18” barrel and that wear is far far less.

Rimfire cans get significantly dirtier (.22’s), and their cans need to be able to be cleaned when they have been shot a lot. The bigger caliber cans (centerfire), don’t get the same buildup and don’t need to be cleaned.

Hire an NFA lawyer to do your trust. Don’t do these canned trusts offered up by Silencershop, capital armory, etc.

Jim Willi in Austin and Cole Bryan in Ft Worth are 2 of the better known ones currently. They can set up everything over the phone. Tell them what your family situation is and they will tailor the trust to YOUR specific wants/needs. If you’re not sure they can advise you on what to do. This is where the cost of hiring a lawyer is invaluable.

The dealer where you purchase the can will step you through the rest.

I wasn't very clean, cans with wipes wear out QUICK (at least the wipes do) but modern cans with baffles only are pretty much indestructable with the volume of shooting us mere mortals put through them

I believe BIG brother classified the wipes as suppressor parts. So you can't just order them or guy by the store and buy them.
