    Grill - Salt Air

We are finishing up the remodel of our house in Port Aransas. It will be a short term rental.

The salt air really eats through metal here. Curious if anyone has experiences with something in the salt environment.

I am thinking it needs to be a charcoal grill and mostly stationary so renters don’t try to do something stupid.

I ran a Weber Genisis for many years when I lived in Corpus.

No 1st hand knowledge.... just a thought. Maybe build a rock/brick style grill. Then the only replacement items would be the grate.

They have a 10 year warranty as well. Plus, they're awesome little grills. I own four different grills and use the Weber more than any of them.

I have been considering that, but I haven’t really seen any designed with a lid.

if you don't put a cover on it, they'll all rust. I don't live *on* the water, but I'm pretty close in Flour Bluff. My all stainless weber even had rust on it. I have a new traeger that I try to keep the cover on, so hopefully that will help. It's a rough environment out here... I don't think there's a magic bullet for it.

As long as you avoid the spring breakers, I don't think you'll have problems with renters tearing it up. It's your pots and pans that get abused most. Buy a decent, inexpensive grill and replace when rusty or make covering the grill a condition of leaving the place tidy.

When we had our house on the canal in Rockport, I just waited for the next big sale and bought whatever propane grill was 50% off. It’s going to rust regardless of how much you spend. I would, however, look for one that had cast iron grates just cause the cheaper ones rusted out so quickly. Replace every three to four years... everything metal is disposable on the bay.

Edit: just saw you wanted charcoal, but the same premise holds. My buddy had a lyfe tyme in POC. It last a good while, maybe ten years, but you needed a tetanus shot to eat off that thing.

I’m concerned about getting one that is portable as people will move them under covered areas, onto the deck, to the beach. Etc.

They definitely will not put a cover back on the grill!

Have you seen the stainless ones they sell at Praseks? Pricey but could be anchored. I’m saving my nickels to buy one for our house in Rockport😂
