    Mathews Halon 32 vs. VXR

In the market for a new bow and wanted to get some opinions before opening my wallet, I have several hunting buddies that all shoot the Halon 32 and love it but I'm very interested in the new 2020 mathews VXR as well, anybody shot both and have a preference or any input to consider? Thanks in advance.

I have a new xvr 31.5. It’s a great bow and super quiet/dead in the hand. Draw cycle is smooth but to me feels a touch stiffer than the 32 or traverse. I love the vxr and will hunt with it this year. I do think my head lines up better and I feel more comfortable shooting my traverse. I have a 29 inch draw and have always preferred an ata of 32-34 inches. I guess what I am saying is shoot the traverse and the vxr!

Definitely check out the Traverse as well when trying the VXR. When I was shopping a little least year, I was told it's a better version of the Halon by several folks. Love mine.

Have heard great things about the VXR 31.5 too and I really dig the OD green it comes in. Super sharp bow. But....but... I ain't letting my Traverse go for awhile..

            I have a Halon 32 and I love it.

I'm not gonna upgrade for some time as long as this bow holds out.

My buddy has the vertex and he loves it

Try the traverse. It’s a slightly taller platform than the 31.5 VXR. I’ve never shot the VXR but my bow techs and competitive friends that shoot Mathews all like the Traverse more.

IMO, the Switchweight system of the VXR puts it a notch or two above the Halon. They are very similar in every other aspect. Love them both.

Only way I think to make this decision is to go shoot the VXR if your serious. I made the move from the switchback xt to the triax because it was night and day different but I cant justify the move to the VXR. If your gonna buy a Halon or VXR and money is no object Pick the VXR

I wanted a new hunting bow so I shot a Hoyt Rx-4, PSE EVO NTN 33, Prime Black 3&5 and Mathews VXR 31.5 along with the Traverse. All we incredible bows and I wish I could have one of each! My last 4 bows were Hoyt’s, I feel dirty saying this but I walked out with a new Mathews VXR 31.5! It came down to the Traverse or the VXR for me. Out of those two Mathews bows I liked the VXR the most.

Thanks for all the input, it looks like I've mistakenly overlooked the traverse as it seems to be the favorite I'll be sure to check it out as well and shoot them all before making a decision. Thanks again guys!

does Mathew still make the Halon 32?

Good question, not sure if they're still making the 32 or just the Halon X, a few shops in my area still have the 32 on the rack though.

I see where they were going with that but at the same time, I plan on shooting a 70lb hunting bow until they make .150 spine 5mm arrows and smooth draw 80lb bows, or I’m too old to draw back 70lbs. I know what weight I want to shoot and don’t need to have that as a mod change. It’s cool for certain things, I just think it’s over engineered lol
