    Stand alone feed pen help

Looking to purchase the feed pen panels that are held up by attaching to each other. I've seen them mentioned several times in different threads but not sure where they were purchased. Looking for somewhere close to I10 between Beaumont and Sonora but will travel wherever if need be. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

I buy my pens at Jacoby feed and seed. It is located in Melvin, Tx. The panels I buy are 20’ in length.

I like that. Are they just held together with a pin between the two panels? Do you recall the price?

They link together. You can barely see how they connect on the bottom picture. I think they were around $84 each for the 20’ panels.

I figured it’s a little less than double the price of regular panels and tpost. I hate tpost! Plus some spots on our lease are too rocky, so it’s very difficult to set up pens. I also like that the pens are mobile and can be moved easily if you want to change a setup. That’s worth the cost IMO.

there are 2 pins on each panel that slide into the next panel, like gate hinges. $84 each is kind of steep though. you should be able to find them from $40-60.

Yes they are worth that. In the past we used rebar instead of tpost and had to use a hilti drill to get the rebar in. Ill gladly pay that in order to avoid that mess.

Any idea where I can get them for that price?

No positive but maybe a high school welding class could make them for you on the cheap. Surely the material to make them would not be any where near that cost.

Just talked to Jacoby's and he only gets 10' panels now and is selling them for $58 a piece.

T-posts and hog panels are way cheaper. You can weld up you own if you’re so inclined. Steel Supply on Telephone Rd at the Beltway in South Houston has new 1/2” square tubing in 24’ joints for $7.50 in carbon steel and $8.61 in red oxide. You can ring one hog panel with 2 joints of tubing. That’ll give you top, sides, and 2 center braces if you want them. That’s less than $20 extra expense per hog panel, before the cost of welding and spot painting. Advantage Outdoor charges $125 per panel. That’s OK for some, but I’m more inclined to keep costs down and gain the experience of trying & learning something new.
