    Why?

Why do people black out license plates when posting pics of vehicles? What’s the point? Same for gun serial numbers, why?

Y’all don’t cover yours any time you’re not driving? Guess I’m the only one. Gotta keep them private!

There are ways to run vehicle registrations and find out addresses and names and such. It is in general a smart idea to limit information about yourself on the internet. There are a lot of sick vindictive people out there. This is a hunting site which automatically makes us all a target of several radical groups. I personally am not overly worried about it but I certainly don’t fault someone for taking a small simply step to help with privacy.

Pleas explain how to run a vehicle registration and find out who the owner is from a plate number from a pic online. Been plenty of people on here asking how to do it and never get a answer. If you’re willing to drive down the road with your plate exposed for all to see then why hide it in a pic online?

there are websites where you can pay for public information. There PIs who can get info, and there are people who work in tax offices, news agencies and such. Surely you’re not so naive to believe that there aren’t people who can look that up. The difference between posting the info on a hunting site vs just driving down the road is as stated above. When driving down the road you are just another vehicle. When posting on a hunting forum your post are being read by people who might possibly do you harm just by being on this site. Again, I’m not particularly worried about it. My TX LP says hunt Texas. But I don’t fault someone for trying to protect themselves.

The answer is pretty obvious, they don't want you to know.

There are multiple websites to run licenses plates on. Yes I have ran them for information on possible thefts and trespassing.

Lots of info on the web.

I have a buddy boat shopping. By looking up the Tx numbers on used boats being marketed by dealers, he had been able to track down owners’ phone numbers and try to deal with them directly.
I’m guessing lots of info could be had by knowing the plate.
