Last week's trip to Leakey and my first Axis Buck

Well, last week i headed up to the lease in Leakey to do a little huntin and feeder fillin. We left out early Monday mornin and got to the lease around lunch time. Got all the stuff unloaded and got ready for the evenin hunt. I decided to hunt one of my GOOD buddy's stands on account that one of my spot's (feeders) was demolished by some cows! I got set up in the box blind early and within about 20 min. I had two axis bucks come out down the road about 200 yards away. I could see that they were in full velvet and i have always wanted one in Velvet. I was wired just thinking about taking my first axis and to have it in full velvet was awesome! I got the camera all setup and started the video when i finally decided to take a shot. Man, this guy was all over the road! He would not stay still for nothin. I was havin to move the camera around so much to get him in the screen. With all this goin on i didnt think i would ever be able to get a shot off. I would get him in the screen, get the gun out the window, and have to redo all of it cause like i said, he was everywere! Well, finally he gave me a broadside shot at around 200 yards and i let my brand new 270 WSSM eat! He droped right in his tracks! He then stood back up and was kinda draggin his hind legs around before standing up and runing off in the weeds about 20 yards then piling up. I was so sure that after seeing that i had hit him in the hind quaters! I was praying that it wasnt so! I would never hear the end of it! I chambered another round and quickly got outa the stand to go down and take a look. I really didnt want to have to do this but i felt that if i did hit him bad i would need to get down there to see if i needed another shot to do the job. Well, i finally got to were i saw him fall and there he was. No follow up shot needed! It was a perfect shot right behind the sholder. I stood there just admiring my first axis buck and it was an awesome 29" buck at that! I couldnt be happier with my first one! Like i said earlier, I did get it all on video and i will try to get it posted up asap. Im not the best at all the editing stuff so it might take me a little while so bare with me.

P.S. Tuthdoc- I now know where Joey and Clint are keepin all the BIG Axis bucks!
