    Electrician question....generator

I bought a 50KV Onan Generator and have a question.....

Can someone PM me with a quick explanation of this thing

How do I read this selector switch

That switch selects which legs you want the meter to read.

      Yup

It allows you to read both amperes and volts

Depending on whether you're reading single phase or 3 phase.

      A mighty darn cool unit.

Can you select the output voltage? It shows a bunch of different voltage systems in the data plate. Or do you re-tap the output on the alternator to get different voltage systems?

Well that I really dont know....its powered by a 6 cyl John Deere engine.....

It was bought to power 6 or 7 rvs for a family reunion.....trying to figure out how to rig it up for that

You will want to wire it up for 120/240 single phase. Looks like it's good for 150 amps in that scenario.

Agreed. The best way to connect multiple RVs to that unit is going to be to install a 150A panel and then feed multiple RV receptacles from the panel. This could get costly.

Do you know if the RVs will have 30 amp or 50 amp connections? Either way they are going to have to be conservative with what they run on each RV.

Needing 200 amps with only 150 amps available will be an issue

That 100 amp main isn’t going to work very well for the load you’re talking about.

If it's not during the heat of the year, the 50Amp rig can turn one AC off and get by with 30A. If you tell them all not to use the microwaves, they won't draw nearly the full 30.
