Barrel protein feeder w Hammer timer?

Been looking into starting protein. Have gained some good info on using a timed unit vs. free choice. I'm looking to see if anyone has made a protein feeder by welding 2 55g drums together and mounting a Hammer unit on it?

I haven’t personally had one but I’ve seen it done before. I would advise against going that route with the stacking of the drums...Kinda unsafe. IMO
To get the correct height off the ground for protein head, it makes the feeder too tall and harder to fill.

I don’t have a pic (somebody around here might) but I’ve seen two 55 gallon drums side by side on a platform. A tube comes from the bottom of each one and join in the middle. The Hammer is attached there and the protein tube and head below that

I had a setup with two 55 gallon drums set side by side. They sat on a base. The legs were heavy aluminum that were about six feet tall. The steel funnels attached to the bottom of each drum. The base was flat. The Hammer Feeder attached to the bottom of the steel base. Worked like a charm. I just grew tired of climbing the ladder to fill feeders. Like Bone Thug said, I would not stack drums. If I can find a pic I will post it so it makes more sense.

We used to have this set up. Worked fine. Only issue was the height. Was a pain to fill

No way in hell would I go back with a double stack 55 gallon drums one on top of each other. . What a PITA to fill. My buddy still has a 1.5 barrel set welded together and it is a beating as well. If two 55 gallon barrels were my only choice I would do side by side like above.....but these days if I can't fill it out of the back of my truck or from the ground, I'm looking until I find something I can. Just got back from two days of filling and was reminded how much I like no ladders.

That’s exactly why I said “used to”. Luckily I had Jenn around to help [emoji3]

                    Protein Feeder

I just made one for this year. I made another wench up feeder to replace my last tripod feeder, figured I would just convert it to a protein feeder. Had to build another Pen to keep the cows away from it, but finally got it put up last weekend. Will be going out this weekend to see how much they ate out of it, try to figure how long it will last. I also put a bale of alfalfa next to it, so they can get fat and happy this year. Like Smart said it's just going to be a pain filling it from the back of my truck, or using a ladder. The double feeder I made is pretty heavy for my wench, so I figured it would be too heavy for tripod legs unless you use drill stem or something heavy
