You may try turning up the heat on your water heater.
We have a jacuzzi tub and just a 40 gallon water heater. We have never ran out of hot water, but I have my water heater turned up pretty high.

Hmmm, the access panel is in my closet, which is the side opposite the spout. The tub should be directly above my wife’s gym but there’s no access in the ceiling in there either. I’ll plan to pull the faucet cover off tomorrow to see if that offers any clues.

It’s probably not your valve unless it doesn’t get hot at all to begin with . Is the tub farthest away from your heater ? Being gas the heater should stay pretty hot and recover faster then a electric heater . But in all reality a tub requires more then a 50 gallon heater . Especially if you’re running mostly hot water to fill it up .

It’s on the main floor, it’s not near the heater but not super far away either. The kid’s bath is on the third floor and probably the farthest faucets from the water heater and they’ve never complained about a lack of hot water but they’re still young and take luke warm baths/showers.

This. We had your exact issue with our tub and this is what it was. Our tub is stand alone also. The diverter was located underneath one of the nearby sinks. It was an easy fix.

When your hot runs out at the tub do you still have good hot to the vanity sink(s) in the same bathroom?

Turn the valve off at the water heater and see if you still get hot water out of the tub. Do it when you start not after the water runs cold. This will tell you if you have a second water heater. Can also try the kitchen sink to see if you have a heating source under the sink.

It’s technical name is a thermostatic mixing valve, and it is a safety device that limits the temperature of hot water that can be delivered to a fixture (to prevent scalding). They can fail, which can cut off hot water flow completely at the fixture.

                          Ok, thanx.

Are they mandatory? My house is 20 years old and I don't think it has one. Will be building a new house in 4 years ... will keep that in mind.

Just to follow up on this. Took the handle off the faucet and found a safety valve that was the culprit. Turned it all the way to “hotter” and it’ll burn your nuts off now
