    dang red cross?........you betcha'!

    Viet-Nam 1969
We were just winding up an offensive air operation. My bird had 5 prisoners and 1 South Vietnamese interpreter aboard and we were returning to the compound in the China Beach area. We were greeted by the "angels of mercy" who set about bandaging the feet of the prisoners and handing out doughnuts and Kool-Aid.
I reached for a doughnut and was promply notified, "Sergeant, that's not for you. You know where your mess hall is." I explained that I had no sleep and little or nothing to eat since this operation started some 57 hrs. previous.
"Not our problem, now beat it!
I promptly pulled my .45, chambered a round, turned to the interpreter and told him to tell them to drop all their goodies on the deck and step on them!
I was written up for that. The squadron Sergeant Major chewed my butt plumb off! He smiled and winked (they never do that) and said good job Marine. I would have done the same thing!

I'm O- everyone can use mine. I gave blood for my grandmother while she was on her death bed. Unfortunately she died before receiving it. I doubt the blood he was giving the other day was going to Nam or any other country for that matter. It was helping people here in the U.S.A.

Rambo lives!!! U should have shot the prisoners!!!
I know how that would make you feel as my dad did two tours of Vietnam (1 tour of Korea) and that was before civil rights for natural born citizens had passed!

I'm thinking that action would have warranted an LOR. Maybe even a stripe.

I would have done the same thing in a heartbeat.

Oh...and I would have gladly signed for my Article 15 the next day . Its the principle of the action.

Seems like the gun was pointed at the wrong people. The prisoners had no say in who ate the doughnuts.

My men were tired and hungry. I gave my rations to them.

That round was chambered out of frustration and a matter of principal.

the only question i have is why was there not a round already in the chamber???

nice war time story. dont think it would fly during peace time but war is war.

When you checked out your flight gear you were given a choice for your survival weapon. A 5 shot S&W Chiefs Special in .38 SPL or a 1911 in .45 ACP. I was 19 years old at the time but it didn't take too long to figure out that if this was for survival I'll take the biggest you got! Flight regulations stated that at no time would aircrew members carry a chambered survival weapon.
