Viet-Nam 1969
We were just winding up an offensive air operation. My bird had 5 prisoners and 1 South Vietnamese interpreter aboard and we were returning to the compound in the China Beach area. We were greeted by the "angels of mercy" who set about bandaging the feet of the prisoners and handing out doughnuts and Kool-Aid.
I reached for a doughnut and was promply notified, "Sergeant, that's not for you. You know where your mess hall is." I explained that I had no sleep and little or nothing to eat since this operation started some 57 hrs. previous.
"Not our problem, now beat it!
I promptly pulled my .45, chambered a round, turned to the interpreter and told him to tell them to drop all their goodies on the deck and step on them!
I was written up for that. The squadron Sergeant Major chewed my butt plumb off! He smiled and winked (they never do that) and said good job Marine. I would have done the same thing!
