    Another Boat Question: stick steering

Does anyone here have any experience with stick steer boats? G3 makes a 17’ SS and I’ve found a used model in camo. I’ve run center consoles, tillers, and side consoles, but never one of these. I could see some possible advantages, but it looks awkward.

    Thanks,
    Skooter

My dad has one so I drive it sometimes. It takes a little time to get the hang of it but after you do it’s easy. I wouldn’t think twice about getting one.

In the 80s, I used one all the time. I liked it.

I had a 21’ G3 with stick steer and go foot. It was great for duck hunting. It put you further up towards the front of the boat and I felt it balanced better.

With tilt trim it let you get pretty shallow.

I also felt it left more room in the boat if you were to hunt out of it. I had a blind built in that would lift up and cover the whole boat.

Plus it was fun to drive. I’m sure it looked funny to other people. Some dude scooting across the water at 30mph and no steering wheel.

My dad had a Falcon Tiger bass boat with stick steering and it ran and drove great.

I have had stick steering, in every boat I've had...……
Like they say, it takes a little getting used to.... But, I love it....
But, always wear your kill switch cord.....
Here's mine.. the stick is up front...….

Depends on how old you are.

I thought you had to be 65+ to run a stick steer boat

My grandpas boat was stick steer. I grew up driving it and after a little seat time it’s second nature.

For some reason I thought that they were dangerous. Maybe my Dad lied to my mom so he could get a new wizard[emoji35]

I didn’t know they still made them.

Operating a boat from the very front feels right, you can see everything.
What's odd is stick steer fishing boats are outlawed from most bass fishing tournaments, specifically.
Maybe its the lack of glitter.

My dad had two of them and the last one was a G3 like what you are looking at. They are not that difficult to run and if you run the rivers they are perfect because of your setting up front. One time we were running across Martin creek lake and his rod nearly blew out of the boat, he let go of the stick and we did a 360 at about 40 mph but no one fell out. That was on the older 60's model boat I'm sure the newer ones have better steering.

Riding in the back of a flat bottom is bad enough. I couldn’t imagine riding up there in some heavy chop and trying to steer.
