As I have gotten older I've realized that the primary reason for going to the lease now comes from my need to just get away. Living in the DFW area with 7 million of my closest friends gets old fast. The lease and God soothe my soul.

I'm with you. After probably 30 years of leasing my priorities have changed. Despite having a mediocre deer herd, our smallish place just over an hour away is all I really need. My chances at a wall hanger are greatly reduced but I'm trading that for being able to go any time I feel the need to get away and decompress even if it is just for one day/night. Sharing the place with just two longtime friends is also priceless - no drama.

With my property only 45 minutes away, for many years it was just a one day thing that we went out early in the morning and returned home in the afternoon. Now that I have a trailer there, it has been nice to go out there to relax and enjoy some friends and kids coming out some of the time. Mostly just like that I don't have to be rushed and can relax.

In complete agreement with this post. I am older now, so the time spent with good friends, BIL, or my son is quite fun. Just as it was with my father 45 years ago. I also know I am there to bring home some venison, hunt hard for a trophy mount, but most often I just care that I enjoy the quietness, the focus of the hunt, and listening to the rain on the roof of my blind. I cannot wait for November. Moving to Webb county this season. I am fired up.

Yes sir. As I’ve gotten older I appreciate watching to woods wake up in the morning and watching them go to sleep in the evening. I appreciate the smell of the woods after an all night rain. I appreciate watching birds flutter and watching squirrels jump from tree to tree. I appreciate the quiet and the time to thank God for all he’s done.

For me its a little different. Yes its nice to get away and the peace and comfort. But its also do work and maintenance. Since my family owns it puts a different spin on it. As for hunting I hardly hunt anymore. Just not that mad at them. Now the fish on are place are in trouble because I am really mad at them.
