    Boat insurance

So I’m having a new shoalwater cat built. Looking to see what you guys are using for insurance. Ive got a quote from progressive for 160 a month just seems high to me but maybe not. Let me know what you guys have.

I have a new Majek I bought back in the summer and I went with progressive and it cost $481 for the year.

Did progressive with Fisherman package to cover anything and everything. The lower unit actually has its own policy with $100 deductible. Think it was around $750 or so for Skeeter ZX250.

I paid with Farm Bureau and mine was $390 for the year on a 2019 Veranda Tri-Toon with a Yamaha V-Max SHO 175 hp. I have my homeowners and auto through them, so maybe that is why I got a deal.

$160 per month seems extremely high, especially for something that is not used everyday and sits for an extended time periods.

Yea 1900$ a year sounds pretty high. I’ve always had older boats with small insurance policy’s. This boat will needs to be insured for about 80k.

Mine is $100 a month for a 2013 Bullet with a 300 with Progressive. Progressive does not have a good reputation for boat insurance and I'm not sure if I will renew with them.

Unless you're comparing apples to apples on exact coverage on said policies, it's very hard to gauge what to expect to pay for any type of insurance. Find an agent that you can trust and sit down and talk through everything to make sure you're getting what you want out of your policies.

160 a month... HELL NO. That is way too high for even car insurance.

This right here is the best information!
160/month may not be too high IF your insurance requirements are higher than the regular old standard minimum policy... You indicate you have an $80K boat... The most cost in the policy won't be insurance to repair you boat, but liability insurance... If you can afford an $80K boat, I sure would not recommend "Minimum" liability insurance, otherwise if a REAL need for insurance comes out of an accident where there's bodily injury or worse yet, death, your little minimum policy will leave you flat broke and no ability to own a canoe, much less an $80K boat... Make sure what you're getting when you buy insurance... boat, car, home, etc.

I insure motor, trailer and boat hull separate through Allstate. Of course mine is not a $80,000 boat either. I pay $285 a year with a $100 deductible on each.
19' Dargel Scout. 140 suzuki motor.

I went through BoatUS and they came back with a quote from CHUBB insurance, it was the best by far. I had quotes that were around 180 per month.
