    Electrician question

Can i run a 8.5 amp pimp and a 5.3 amp pump on a 15 amp beaker. I know a 15 amp breaker is 1800 watts so 8.5 and 5.3 pump on same breaker comes to 1680 watts should be ok right?

If both pumps come on or running at same time will surge and trip breaker. If pumps are never on at same time should work.

      What he said ^^.
The start up is what's going to get you.

That’s what I thought because of starting up amps.

Do you know it it is being fed with 12 or 14 wire?
If it is 12 wire, I would change the breaker to a 20 amp one so you have no issues if both pumps come on at the same time. Starting amperage and full load amperage are different. It takes more to get the pump going at start up than for it to continue running.
Many folks do use 14 wire to handle 20amp loads. I do not do that, not code. I make it a rule to use 14 wire for 15 amps and 12 wire for 20amps.

If I remember right the load should only be 80% of rated circuit capacity for continous loads. May be a factor depending on how long they will run

              On edit: not an electrician..sorry

Should be fine if they don’t start up at same time, 20amp would be better if you have 12 gauge wire.

Ya it looks like 14 gauge so out of luck to change beaker.

start-up will getcha. one star with the other running will likely trip it.
