Son needs thumb protection for baseball

I know some of you dads have kids in select baseball so I'm sure you've come across this. My son fractured his thumb about 4 months ago. He had his first hitting practice at his high school yesterday and said that after a few hits, it started to hurt.
Would one of those Pro Hitter batting tool that slips over the thumb work to keep down the vibrations or should I look at something like a catcher's thumb guard? Any other suggestions welcome.

Best $10 you will ever spend. We always had several in our ball bags....

If it's his top hand, the thumb guard thing should help a lot.

Agreed- but will need to know if he hits right or left handed, pro hitter is designed to be worn on top hand- you might look at an evoshield thumb catchers protector as well.

He is a right handed batter so it would be his bottom hand.

My son has one of these for catching but never wears it. Santa gave it as a stocking stuffer one year. It may work for what you need.

LSU, MLB, UNC, Vanderbilt, baseball, benji johnson, blocking, catcher practice, catcher university, catchercon, catchers, catching, catching drills, catching instruction, catching school

Keep in mind, he will not be able to bend his thumb with this on.

Catching101 thumbguard.. custom moldable...but its not for hitting.
The pro hitter is more for putting the bat in the fingers and out of the palm.. it will help a bit for jamming..but thats not its true purpose.

Get some good padded gloves ..

Make sure and follow up with him to only hit until it bother him. It is natural to avoid pain, and many a good swing has been messed up by taking batting practice when it hurts. Better to let your body tell you what it can do and go from there. Protection is paramount, but a little patience goes a long way.
