As a home builder and a framer, if I was having a house built and my builder and his framer couldn't answer the OP's question in 5 seconds I would fire them both.

This is an example why you don't ask serious questions on the internet.

        Your supporting steel with wood?

Why do you allways look for the easy way out?

So, if there any window under this beam? Or it's just enter to the building?
I think it is bad idea to replace it. Why you need t do this?

I'm gonna wait for the engineer's answer and then agree with whatever he says....

The engineer will tell you what’s possible in 5 minutes. Check it with your builder for his input. You get what you pay for, which is why TBH opinions are worthless. 2x6?? lol do that!

Your engineer could run the snow loads, seismic req. etc. and seal the plans. That is the only way be safe down the road.

We had a full engineering analysis done- snow loads, wind shear, etc.

The RO is 96” high, we’d like to know if an 8-0 front door is possible- we’d need another 2+ inches for the frame. Yes, builder is fully capable and will probably say swap out a glue lam for the 2x10 headers.

I wanted to know if it’s possible before going to ask him.

                    Again, thanks for all inputs.

We’re still undecided on front door. If we need height, he’ll block up the trusses, remove the 2x6s above and put in longer 2x6s on the sides.

We’re leaning towards building a double front door, 2/3 insulated glass out of Douglas fir ourselves, and the height will be to fit. I really want traditional wood doors.
