They are not called "Big Flex" for nothing.

As was previously mentioned, get underneath and check the welds.

I also recommend buying more trailer than you need.

5000 lbs of scissor lift on a single axle 3500GVWR trailer. It was definitely overloaded by a few lbs.

Dumb ***. I wish the DOT would have shook him down.

I’d have felt bad if they did. Wasn’t his fault. Young kid that didn’t know any better just following his bosses instructions. They learned a valuable lesson the easy way, but it wasn’t cheap. Well cheaper than learning it the hard way, but not near as cheap as doing it right the first time.

DOT doesn’t care who’s fault it was. Driver is responsible for his load...they shake us down over dirty license plates and cargo straps with nicks in them, they’d put me under the jail for that...but I digress.

Yeah sorry I don’t give a **** what DOT thinks. Im well aware of the stupid rules they’re able to come up with, and I’m not going to wish a DOT shakedown on some young kid that’s just starting out in life for following his bosses instructions for something he doesn’t even know is illegal. Want to hit the boss? Get on with it. He’s get enough legs and age under him he should be able to know better. The kid learned a valuable lesson, and hopefully the boss did too.

Right and wrong don’t always go hand in hand with legal and illegal.

What I’m trying to say is there is a point where you don’t know what you don’t know. The kid is too young to expect him to have the life experience to know he was illegal. Some kids are blessed with different upbringing and give them more knowledge in subjects like DOT legalities, etc. I grew up towing quite a bit, and I never had a clue about the legalities or limits of certain loads etc. From 20-22 I was breaking the law constantly, and never had a clue. I drug a 36’ fifth wheel all over the place with a 09’ F-350 dually that was over the 26k GCVWR, and had no idea it was illegal. It was within the trucks capacities and I sent it. Didn’t have any issues out of pure luck. Would I blame DOT for hitting me or someone in my situation with a fat ticket? Nope. Would I wish that on them? Not a chance.

If buying new look at the paint job. Make sure that they painted the bottom of the traiiler (dont ask me how I know this) Make sure they painted the trailer before they installed the deck boards (again dont ask how I know this). Make sure that they sand blasted and primed the trailer before they painted it.

Starting to look around the Houston area for buying one. Looks like Trailer Place in Wharton and WCTractor in Navasota have good reviews.

Anywhere else in Houston or surrounding areas recommended?

Once again can't thank you guys enough on the information! Helped a ton.
I bought one from Trout Tire in Porter last year. Super easy to work with and the trailer has been amazing going back and forth from Houston to Rocksprings.

I bought a 16' Pipe top. Came with brakes, bulldog coupler, treated floor, slide in ramps, and a spare, super happy with it.
