    Mechanic question.

What is the rough cost for a engine replacement in a f150 with the 5.4 in it?

    #2
Most shops will use Jasper to replace factory engines. I want to say I got a quote for a 5.4 replacement that was around $4,500. That may not be correct but I do remember that I needed both cam phasers replaced along with timing set and that was going to run almost as much as a full motor replacement. The labor on the motor swap is actually pretty low so the bulk of the cost was the engine.

$4800 reman long block from Ford. Figure 3-3500 labor.

depends if you can find a decent used engine. If it is a 2v or a 3v, the 5.4's are getting long in the tooth and a decent under 120K used engine will go for a premium. I think 4-5K is probably what your looking at.

Is he selling you the broken truck or quoting to repair?

Just had a“Ford Remanufactured” 5.4 engine put in my daughters 2005 F150. 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, $8,000. Had another shop quote me $6500, but I was already $1200 in at the other shop that I would have to pay for work already done so it was pretty much a wash.

It really depends on whether it's a 2V or a 3V engine. Then who you get the engine from. For the prices other guys are listing for a rebuilt engine, you could have a machine shop rebuild yours for quite a bit less. No way I would ever pay those prices for either a 4.6 or 5.4, but people do. It better be a 4.6 or 5.4 DOHC engine with some good pistons, rods and some aftermarket cams before I would pay over $3000 for any mod motor. But those prices listed above don't surprise me for a AER reman engine from a Ford dealer, or a Jasper engine.
