Keeping birds out of my garage

Since I live in the middle of the woods birds come and go pretty much anywhere they want including my garage. They will nest in there unless I can keep them out. Any ideas on keeping them out short of keeping everything closed?

Get you one of those plastic owls and hang in your garage. Ive heard of people using rubber snakes to.

Used to have one of them owls. Think I got it at the coop, maybe Tractor Supply. Will have to get one. Have had close calls with real snakes too often in and around the garage to want to try that.

A kite won't fly in the garage, but cutting out something the shape of a hawk in flight and letting it hang up high may help? I know birds won't fly any where near a kite in the air outside.

An owl decoy may work, but I have seen a lot of birds land on a post next to real hawks. They do not seem to be scared when the predator is just sitting ... it's when they are in flight the birds know they are in trouble.

My Mom and Dad live in Crystal Beach. They put moth balls in panty hose and hang them under the house to keep the birds out. They say it works.

Make some birdhouses and put them in the yard. i'm guessing Carolina wrens and finches, if it's starlings i got a pellet gun you can borrow. The wrens will like hanging basket plants( monkey grass type plants, thin leaf). they eat spiders, so kinda a good thing to have around if you can control where the live (poop and nesting messes).

Did you get them to move out?

Hey Bill - I googled "how to get rid of birds under my carport" and your thread popped up. Did you have any success with getting them to leave? I have them by the hundreds living under my porches and carport area. Bought an owl last week that I hung under the carport and it worked great for a couple days, came home last night and they were back in force laughing at the owl. Sad part, I just bought 2 more owls yesterday that I now need to take back since they don't work effectively.
There are so many products out there it is hard to figure which one will work and which one is junk. Looking for a sound device or something that will be permanent, not a fan of having to spray every 2 weeks at this time.

And yes, this is another "resurrection thread."

I never had much luck with the owls or snakes. Once the birds realize they aren't moving, they crap all over them.
I use a garden decoration spinner that catches every little breeze top keep them off my tomatoes, and it worked all summer, so I got another one and put it in my patio to keep them from sitting on my patio furniture and leaving droppings. It works well, and looks nice too. The thing is to have a little breeze to keep it moving and flashing.
This one works the best: http://www.hayneedle.com/product/22i...airballoon.cfm

PS- I found the wind socks don't work too well
