We went for 14 days in the camper last year, first two weeks of june. We stayed just south of the park in a grand teton campground with very few amenities (camper is set up to go completely offgrid.) Wife wouldnt go for boondock camping by ourselves especially after we kept finding grizzlies close to campground. We camped along Lake Jackson and fished.
We loved every second of it. We would drive to hiking spots each day. Getting to the north end (Mammoth) took a while but worth it. We would have picnics in the park. A grizzly and blackbear caused us to move out of the picnic area one day.
We only had one traffic jam and that was to see a grizzly over an elk kill. Rangers came along shortly and ushered people along. We were warned it would be packed but had very very very few crowds. The weather was nice except 1 day it snowed. It shut down the south entrance due to several wrecks. That started the first day of a several of us touring Grand Tetons.
Our last day there my son ans i wanted to watch the sunrise over Yellowstone lake. Park rangers gave us the place to go. Told us to get there an hour early because the spot was the most popular with photographers. We were the only ones in the road coming into Yellowstone. The only ones watching the sunrise. And when we left we saw 1 other car on the road. For a little while we felt we were the only ones in the park lol.
Kida enjoyed mammoth, fairy falls, yellowstone falls, boiling mud pits. We would go back in a heart beat if time allowed. Id would camp on north end in Montana next time just to see more of Montana.
