Anchor point on shorter ATA bow

Looking for opinions/tips. I picked up a new Hoyt Axius and it’s the first time I’ve owned a short ATA bow (29.5 ATA). I’m shooting decent groups but ever so often I’ll throw an odd shot, meaning inches off target.

My usual anchor points were the typical knuckle on jaw(shoot a thumb release), string corner of mouth and nose to string. But, with this shorter ATA it’s not comfortable, hardly possible, to get my nose to string with such a steep string angle. I literally have to duck my head to get it to touch, which is awkward. Anybody run into something similar with a shorter ATA bow?

Yes. 29" draw and have noticed it with the shorter bows. 32-33 ata feels better to me. Just personal preference

Your anchor sounds good. This is why I shoot bows before I buy them. I never liked that feature on shorter than 32” bows. I can’t believe the trend is going back to super short really.

      And I’m 28” DL.
If your longer than that it gets even more extreme. Shorter would be better

These super short ata bows are tough for a lot of us to shoot. I tried a Mathews vertix and sold it pretty fast. I never could get comfortable with it and found myself having to reposition my head to get lined up. It wasn’t comfortable and I didn’t shoot it well. For max efficiency a bow should feel like part of you. Like a good rifle, it should come up and almost automatically be lined up with a good sight picture. I can’t do it with the shorties. My sweet spot for ata has always been 32-34 inches.

Steeper string angle. I'm opposite. Always have shot shorter bows and longer ATA messes with me.
