    Possum Poison

I have an issue with possums killing my chickens. I am over it. I have trapped a ton. Where I am shooting them is not an option. I am looking to find out if someone has used some sort of poison.

I was thinking of using some sort of mole poison. Since they eat similar things.

    Thoughts?

How many do you have that trapping them won't work?

Since guns are not an option. Could you shoot them with a bow? Beat them with a golf club?

          Could you get a dog?

I am always just leery about using poison around other animals.

I've killed a truck load of possums when I was younger. Have heard that they are good critters to have around so I quit but I guess if you have chickens, it is the opposite. Not sure on poison, is the airgun route an option? One to the ear hole should do it.

I used to kill them every time I came across one. Now I let them be. One of the best animals to have around........

unless you raise chickens. Good luck OP. Head shot or I would just keep trapping and release further down the road.

I heard someone mixed Big Red soda, with some sort of fly bait? Possums couldnt resist it. But also heard its pretty lethal to "anything" that drinks it. Poured it in a pie plate. But he said he didnt have any other critters around that might get into it. So dont know if you wanna put near your chickens.

Yep, but highly frowned upon but I'm fine with it

Whatever poison you could use would also attract dogs, cats, and any other critters around the neighborhood. What I do is to carper the area with cage traps and dp's for a couple of weeks then after knocking the population back I keep 3-4 traps active at the primary access points year round, an avg year for my place is around 15 each skunks and possums, and around 8-10 coons per year. If I lived well out of town I'd expand the kill zone a lot farther.
