I just checked on my oldest son who cut his fingers badly the other day. He's about to turn 16. Our 14 year old cat is curled up right next to him, just like she has done for almost 10 years. Nothing wrong with acknowledging a family friend, regardless of species. It's never easy when they pass. I always just try to remember the funny things they did along the way

I care more about our cat and dogs than I do most people I meet. I've never had a cat or a dog lie, cheat or steal from me, and their affection and loyalty is genuine and sincere. OP, I'm sorry for your loss.

Russ, not much can be done. This stuff just takes time. Help her remember the fun times, and maybe make some nice remembrance since the cat was important. I know when my dogs finally pass, they will be cremated and laid to rest in the fields they chased rabbits in.

I have had dogs steal food off plates, try to cheat and sneak a peak of me hiding pheasant wings in the field, tear up a garbage when I am gone, and then run up to me when I get home all happy to see me, like nothing happened. That's why I love dogs, and why it hurts to lose them.

This will probably be the fourth cat we will have cremated. The wife spent a tough day trying to put away every thing that reminded her of him, but there is no way to pack away the hurt and loss she is feeling right now. Because of his health issues the last couple of years he was pretty much the center of her attention so the loss is especially tough. Good to know there are others that have feline members of the family.
