    Brown or White Salt Block

Lease boss suggested putting out minerals to supplement nutrition. I’m of the opinion “deer salt” is just labeled that way to add some extra margin for the salt seller.

    What say Ye, GS???

We don’t protein feed at the moment...

White salt is just that, (white pure salt) brown will be salt and trace mineral. I always use the trace mineral. I agree with you on the price difference.

Just get a good sheep/goat all around mineral block at Tractor Supply. Keep in mind all animals go to mineral supplements on an as needed basis. In areas that get a lot of rain mineral consumption will be more

I have used the brown blocks from Tractor supply and when there is no alternative. deer and other critters hit it. But if you want to put out blocks made specifically for deer, but other critters will hit it too, but deer will get the most benefit, look at this.

Give your deer the nutritional boost they need with this 30-06 mineral block! This deer block is a professionally formulated mineral and vitamin supplement.

        Look at their whole line.

I have two of the 50lb trace mineral blocks from tractor supply in my feed pens that I put out in early summer. The only thing that’s made them shrink in the least bit is rain. Deer don’t touch them. But put a trophy rock out and they’ll hammer it. I don’t know what the difference is, but there’s a difference. Just my experience.

I’ve actually heard this a few times. Wonder if the trophy rock has an attractant in it... pretty sure they are cast in that shape.

Trophy rock breaks down quicker in the weather

Our local farm supply has 3 kinds of blocks. White, brown, and yellow. Yellow is selenium. I put out 4 brown blocks on our 800 acre lease. Have been wondering if the selenium would be good or harmful. Anybody have an idea, or first hand knowledge?

I was on a lease with a guy who put molasses on the brown mineral blocks. Kinda think that defeats the purpose, because they were more interested in the molasses than the mineral. I use the brown blocks, but don't notice them using them much. I put out a goat protein block one year and the hogs devoured it in a couple weeks. The protein block I used was softer than the mineral blocks and they could eat chunks at a time.
