    Crime Statistics......

Before and after our CHL/LTC laws were passed in Texas and in other states.

I'm curious if there was a drop in crime after these types of laws were passed but have no idea how to look that kind of thing up.

My suspicion is that crime, in certain segments, and certain types of crime, decreased.

Anybody have any hard data on this kind of thing? Or know where I can go to look that up?

    Thanks

Don’t think there’s direct correlation....in the bigger cities. Seems like Houston is getting worse, just my 2cents. Or maybe the criminals are getting better at picking out targets. I can say the amount of firearms stolen from vehicles has increased significantly.

^^ Agree that there's no way to prove a direct correlation to ANY law or law enforcement tactic, citizen involvement, use of common sense, etc. Not saying they don't impact but proving what worked and what doesn't, doesn't exist.

I see less folks open carrying now than I did before the open carry laws were passed.

Crime stats are available on the FBI website if you dig a little. Violent crime has been on the decline pretty much everywhere since the mid 90’s. There has been a few years with small upturns but for the most part it has been a steady decline.

Not a direct correlation, and no anti-gun person would acknowledge it, but this does coincide with the expansion of LTC/CHL across the country.

I know your chances of being able to shoot back go up 100% if you're carrying a gun. I know more people are getting shot in places like Chicago that have stricter gun laws than anywhere else in the United States every single day. People that can't figure that out aren't mentally capable of making good choices so they shouldn't be allowed to say whether or not people should be allowed to defend their life or the lives of those around them. If you're that dumb how about you don't carry a gun and everyone else does? That would make more sense, because you're a danger to society.

That makes sense. Especially in Texas since we passed the CHL in 1995 and started issuing permits in 1996.

John Lott Jr. wrote a book a few years ago titled "More guns, less crime" on this exact subject.
