Need some advice on heartworm preventives

I have a dog that doesn't tolerate Ivomex. Tested negative for heart worms. Started it out on Heart Guard Plus. Changed to regular Heart Guard that doesn't have the other wormers in it. Still the same symptoms. Throwing up, lethargic, wobbling, etc.

Talked to the vet and basically all the major preventatives are Ivomexin based.

With the vast knowledge here on the GS I figured I would see if anyone here has a alternate preventative they are using.

Thanks for the help and appreciate the input.

Are you sure the wormer is what is making him sick?

I don't know what the medicine is but my dogs get a vaccination at our Vets office every 6 months. Might be worth a look.

Thanks man, but yes. Tried several doses of heart guard plus and heart guard. Every dose its worst. After a couple of days he is fine. Appreciate the input/

From my research the injectable is ivomexin plus a wormer and flea treatment. Maybe I am not looking at the one you have. Thank you for the help.

Proheart 6 or 12 month injection maybe an option.

Believe it or not Lab but not papered. Saw both parents. But he may have something mixed in from the bloodline. I did find out there are a couple of breeds that can not have ivomex. Thanks Randy

Look at Advantage Multi or Proheart.

Will do. Thanks. Researching interceptor now. Collies, German Shepards, Australian shepards and herding dogs can have a gene mutation ( think it's called mld1) that prevents the use of ivomex..
                        Appreciate the help guys.

Agree. They eat grass to make them puke when they have an upset stomach.

That is BS too. Sometimes they just eat grass.
