I can't believe it. You probably won't either.

I've all but had myself talked out of even bringing it up because I know nobody will believe me. But tonight I saw probably one of the weirdest/coolest things I've ever seen in my life. I was driving down the road pretty much out in the middle of nowhere and saw eyes shining just on the edge of where the headlights reach. Just caught a glimpse for a split second so I slowed down and saw something black and it was really booking it. So I turn the lights on it to see what was running so fast. It was a red fox.....except it was black. I don't just mean kind of black or dark, dark red. It was black as in.......No color. I know that's what it had to of been. It wasn't no coyote. It wasn't that big. It wasn't a dog or a cat or anything domesticated. I know a black red fox doesn't even seem possible but I'm like 98% that's what it was. I got a good look at it and I'm positive that's what I saw. I say 98% sure because it's so odd that I'm doubting myself. I've never seen such a thing and I highly doubt I'll ever see another like it.

I could probably count on two hands how many red foxes I've seen in person. Real red ones I mean. Enough to know what they look like but they're rare enough I'm stunned at what I saw. I don't know what the odds of seeing a black red fox actually are but I'm sure I had a better chance of seeing God in the grocery store today than I did seeing that fox.

That's exactly what it looked like. Actually if it had that much of a grayish tint to it I'd be surprised. That sucker was black as night it looked like. Of course it could have had some silver lookin fur had I got right up on it but I don't think so.

Cool animals. I’ve only seen one red fox in Texas. In other parts of the US I’ve seen a few. Consider yourself lucky to see something like that.

That is so cool. How does that even exist? I've never talked to anyone that's seen that before.

That fox is about an hour and a half from where I live. I actually used to work our there and I never saw any red foxes out there. But I saw tons of coyotes which is bad because they hate foxes and they will hunt them down and kill them.

I just wish I had a picture or something of it. I don't like being that guy that says he seen something like that without proof. Of course if I did get a picture it would probably be blurry and questionable. I know it would have been because all I had was my phone and it was dark and that joker hauled balls when the headlights shined on it.

Up north we have them all over. Always called them a cross fox.

I see foxes crossing my back yard pretty regularly. Most of them are dark gray but have seen a couple of red ones further back by the pond. Ive never seen a black one though. Pretty cool! I set up my bluetooth speaker on a big rock in the back yard and play my pig squealer app on my phone to call them out. The grandkids get a kick out of seeing them come out looking for that little piggy! Good times!

They're cool animals for sure but their downfall is they don't have good survival instincts. Every red fox I've ever seen got hit on the road eventually or just up and disappeared, I'm guessing due to coyotes. I see them in town more than anything because the coyotes are leary of people. I don't think foxes have sense enough to be scared of people. That's one thing that surprised me about the one I saw last night because normally they'll normally kinda fart around seems like. But it's also a country fox so I'd imagine it's a little more on edge out there. It doesn't have many people to contend with but I know it's probably very careful about where it roams out there and is very aware of its surroundings.

We can't hunt at night here but I do hunt over that way occasionally. Although rare to see I know if given the opportunity I'll take that fox and have a full body mount done on it. It's very unlikely that, that will ever happen but you never know.

I wonder if it was to breed with a regular red fox if their offspring would be black, red or black with some red mixed in? That would be an interesting looking fox potentially. I don't exactly know how that works.
