I’ve always been there for the opener. Usually the same as our bow season. I had visited with some locals at a gas station when buying ice. A lot of the locals don’t like dealing with the bears. I was looking for a place to freeze my bear cape until I was ready to head back home, and met a local that had several hundred acres on the river. He offered to set up feeders and let us hunt anytime we liked. I kick myself for never following up with that. 10 hours is a long drive for me to be running back and fourth filling feeders. Still, I could have worked onto some good hunting.

We moved to NW Arkansas three years ago. The deer hunting up here is far better than you would think it would be. . Ive never hunted the Ozark but I have spent quite a bit of time in the Mark Twain just across the border in MO, Killed a 140 last year. Between Arkansas and MO there is more public land than you can shake a stick at. If you learn to read a map, get out and scout, and get away from others there are a lot of big deer to be killed.
