No brow tines and antler development / highest score

What are some examples of 150+ B&C deer that don’t have brow tines? Is this a genetic trait that should be targeted for culling at an earlier age? I’ve seen the examples of spikes growing to be giants, but the “no brow tine” gene seems to continue with the deer we follow.

    Do mule deer count?

I can tell you this is the size rack it takes to get a 160 with no brows.

Both broke off clean with the beam. Lost 10-12"

It seems that deer with small brows are usually always small. But doesn’t mean they won’t get big frames.

Couple more examples of what brow tines do over time

I think many folks on here would debate you about culling out genetic traits. Very difficult thing to do. Most research supports the doe mother being roughly 60% responsible for an offspring buck's antlers. How do you know which doe carry that gene? If you don't want to support the mouth of a deer with now brows and leave more resources for the other deer with brows then wack em. If you want more targets regardless of brows or no brows keep them.

I’m one of the people that shoots bucks with no or very small brows. It’s almost the only trait I use for culling. I have MLD tags to fill though and I don’t shoot spikes. Unless I have a crazy ugly buck, this is the only trait I think I use for filling my buck tags. Seems to work for me as I shoot some great deer each year.

No brows is genetic trait, a bad one in my opinion, that will spread very quickly..

                        I ain’t a biologist or genetics expert.
I don’t believe in heavy culling, just managing
But if I had some 3.5’s with no brows I would remove them if possible.
If they have small brows I wouldn’t kill them.
                        More food might help!

This is pretty much me. I don’t shoot spikes but start shooting 2.5 year olds if they don’t have both brows. My biologist has told me that brow times are the most inheritable trait in white tails.

From what I saw on one of my leases about 6 years ago, deer with no brows may have brows the next year, however they will likely always have weak brow tines. This is only stated from observation. Not sure what triggered it on our lease but for several years most bucks had both brow tines then out of no where the following year there wasnt a buck on the lease that had any or only one. Didnt cull them, then all bucks had brows again but some were only 2-3".

Asked another way, is anyone aware of 2+ year old deer that were slick to the G2 and later developed a 140-150+ rack?
