I was just talkin to an old friend the other day about when we used to do that 30yrs ago. It would make your heart thump and your liver quiver.

Do the same every year when I go Turkey hunting. Unfortunately, they are long past the den stage at that time of year, so it takes alot of work to find them in the few days that I am there. There is a group of guys that go to the lease this time of year and always load up with hundreds of snakes. The lease is just outside of Robert Lee. Sure wish I could get down there at the same time they are. I just finished rebuilding my tongs since they were broken last year by a friend.

Can't wait to grab a few at my lease in Jack Co. We have a nice den on top of a hill that usually produces a dozen or so. First warm weekend and its on.

They make "tongs" with a 10' handle? I don't really mind the non-poisonous variety, but I'll hurt myself getting away from those. I know they perform a valuable service, but the **** things still give me the creeps.

There used to be a couple of guys that lived across the street from us when I was a kid that would go out and catch a bunch rattlers, bring them back in some kind of big military box and kick it over in the yard to just watch 'em crawl around before they slaughtered 'em. Those guys were usually three sheets to the wind by the time they got home with the snakes. Several years later one of them got bit by a big one and nearly died.

The last time I went on a snake hunt where you actually catch them alive the guy that we went with was bit on the side of his knee, bad deal, he was in the hospital for three weeks because of some complications. We have a buch of snakes on our ranches, we have a den under our house.
