Question on Shotgun Shells for Goose Hunt

Question for some of you duck and goose hunters.
My groomsmen and I are going on a late season snow goose hunt for bachelor party. Been duck hunting plenty but never goose hunting.

I’ll be taking my 12gauge benelli SBE2. Would prefer to stick with 3.5” shells.

    1) What do y’all recommend for shells (brand, type, and shot size)?
    2) any good places to buy shells (prefer to stay away from box stores due to the excessive markup)
    3) how many shells for a morning hunt in February?
    4) What choke size do y’all recommend? I have all the chokes for the gun so I’ll probably take multiple to the field. Just not sure which one to start with.

Of sticking with 3.5” go bbb, and depending of how good of shot you are modified choke. Academy gonna be your best. Stop price wise. Depending on where you hunt could need a box or a case lol

We will be around Eagle Lake. Shot wise I’m decent. 3 of us were on the Trap and Skeet team at A&M through college so should be some fun competition.

3 in Kent Fasteel 2.0 in # 2's. Shot through a MOD choke. Rogers has great prices on shells. As far as how many ,if geese are like they have been ,you might not need 1 box. LOL! If you get lucky & get a barn burner 4 boxes.

Order from Rogers sporting goods. Free shipping on cases. No tax. Number 2s are deadly on geese if they are decoying. Either that or BBs if you want to go bigger. My recommendations.

I shoot Fiocchi 3” #1. They are cheap and fast. As far as choke, I shoot a Patternmaster Code Black Goose, it’s a full. We do the conservation season in Arkansas, sometimes I shoot a box, sometimes it’s 4-5 boxes. Lol. Skip the 3.5” shells and buy a case from Rogers.

BBs all the way and I’d go full choke
If your good you have the right choke whether you’re shooting decoying birds or pass shooting

Rogers Sporting goods is typically hard to beat

I shot 3” BB Kent Fasteel on my last goose hunt

I always shot LM at decoying birds and rarely anything over BB. When youre on the X you can smash them with 4s and run through 5 boxes with ease.

I don't think Trap and skeet shooting is gonna matter much on field hunts laying on your back

I agree LM Choke. We shot lessers last season with #2 recommended by the guide. If I was doing it again I might go BB. I’d prob skip the 3.5’s also 3’s are plenty for decoying birds.

I use 3.5 bb kents when using steel but now use BOSS 3 inch 3's have to order from them. Bought cheap Herter steel and they were garbage

LM or Mod choke. I have always run 3" BB's for geese. If I switched to 3.5", I'd still run BB's. The shell I think is the best for the $$ is the Kent Fasteel. Love that stuff, and won't break the bank. Stay away from Winchester Xpert steel. Nothing is round in that shell. The shot looks like a bunch of Nerds...

Guys check out Boss shotshells I got them and love them, nephew got them too and tossed out his steel. Mine are 3 inch 3's and 5's combo which were a special run for Fowlco in garber oklahoma. Call for military discount.

For geese I’ve been using 3.5” #2 or BB. I’ve tried a few different shells and my favorite that I like out of my SBE is federal black cloud. A lot of people knock them but I’ve had the best luck with them.

Chokes either stock modified or Carlson’s mid range and sometimes throw in the long range. All my preferences for my shooting style and what works best for me.

Never hunted snow geese but if I was, I’d probably take 5 or 6 boxes of shells just in case the hunting is that good, hate to be out there and run out of ammo.
