I like Coast. Won't break the bank and have had them for several years without any issues.

Like the components in the light go to crap.
I have a Streamlight, from about 8 to 10 years ago. I have to put batteries in it every 8 months to a year. It's supposed to only be a 700 lumen light, but it is bright. I love it. I can light up coyotes out to 300 even 400 yards with it. It used to stay on my 5.56 AR, killed many coyotes using it on the AR. I have a flashlight I bought from Academy four months ago, it's supposed to be a 1200 lumen light, not sure how they measure the lumens on lights, but there is no doubt, the Streamlight rated at 700 lumens lights the night up much better than the 1200 lumen light I got four months ago. The one I got 4 months ago, has been good so far. I can go down to the highway at night, when taking the garbage out and light up road signs very brightly well over 1/4 mile away, much better than the head lights on either my car or truck. But when outside looking for the source of a noise I heard, it lights things up but not ridiculous overkill like I would expect from a 1200 lumen light, when pointing it at something only 40 yards away. So afterwards, I went back in the house, got the Streamlight, took it out to the same spot and turned it on, there was a very noticeable difference. The Streamlight does a much better job of lighting things up.

I like flashlights, all of them, my wife thinks I have a problem. A lot of the cheaper lights have outrageous lumen ratings, and these are possibly accurate. But, the “throw” on the beam just isn’t up to par. I have had these same experiences with some cheaper, high output lights. After a battery change they fall off, they are bright as the sun but somehow don’t light up anything, or they just flat out don't work sometimes. I have found it’s more about reflector and lens design/quality, than raw lumen output. I don’t know about all the scientific stuff they do in testing labs. I just like to go play in the dark, and see what works better. I have been very happy with streamlight, Fenix, and olight products. If on a budget, I still like a mag light. Not saying I won’t buy anymore cheap “amazon specials”, because I definitely will. I just try to keep my expectations down, when spending under 50 bucks.

We use Nightstick flashlights at work. Good durable lights and not real expensive.

NEBO Redline Blast RC. I wouldn't say it's the best probably but you can take a look online and see what you think.

The best one ive bought is a surefire p3x fury. Hands down thats the brightest best beam pattern ive found. Its a solid 1k lumen light. Its my favorite. I have a p2x tactiacl surefire thats supposed to be 1500 lumen and its bright, but doesnt throw the beam out there like the p3x fury will.
For a spot light i just got a streamlight waypoint 1k rechargeable. It ll get some light out there.
For a budget Franken light. You can do the old surefire g2 and get a chinese head off evay for like 7$ it makes that little light pack a punch cheap!

I got the bushnell pro 400 for $30 at walmart. the brightest setting is brighter than you want most of the time. I shot a hog from about 45 yards with it.

You can't go wrong with the streamlight strion it's a very good flashlight. Also if you looking for some stocking stuffers check out the streamlight microstream USB it's a pretty cool little light with 250 lumens.
