First lite size and layers question

Quick question. Ordered large in bibs/ jacket/ gloves. Fits pretty good based off charts and warm. Use to wearing several layers and going with XL. I’m 5 11 195. Are folks wearing a lot of layers? Looking for instances of how cold u were during hunts.

What bibs and jacket did you buy?

I went with bibs & jacket several years ago over coveralls. I like it much better. Layers are much easier. I'm knocking on 60 & I get cold easy.

I layer as simple as possible, especially for bow. Base layer, good shirt & pants and Bass Pro Dry Fit jacket. Of course my Mr. Buddy comes along.

Which bibs and jacket did you get?

Either way, in Texas, if you couple the Solitude or the Sanctuary/Woodbury with the Furnace bottoms and top, and their 150 we aight bottom and top underneath with a vest, you’ll never get cold in Texas. Even with some of my other stuff I wear, from my first base layer to my outer jacket is probably no more than a 1/2” thick and I take it down to freezing temps without bibs or a heavy jacket.

I got the sanctuary bib and tops and just fit right with just one layer of long johns underneath. I get cold easy and hunt up north so I was thinking of going XL

A good puffy jacket takes the place of 2 layers when needed.
Interesting you all, prefer bibs as they are not very popular up this way for hunting.
Good merino long johns and a good wind blocking pant gets us by in cold weather, when it's bitter cold maybe 2 under layers, merino and a fleece type long john pant under the wind proof pants, but with a thicker fleece backed pant only the merino or fleece type long johns are needed.

I use a lightweight merino for next to skin to wick away any sweat and then I go with Cabela’s ECWS grid fleece for temps down to the 30’s. Anything colder than that and I add the furnace. For my tops, I go ECWS grid fleece (polar weight) followed by the Kiln and then the Santuary jacket. I have a Klamath hoodie on the way, which uses the grid fleece, it works stand alone in mild temperatures and should be a great mid layer when coupled with the Sanctuary jacket when temps are below 30. Next weekend should be a good test for the additional gear I just ordered, which also includes the Tundra Balaclava.

I like this guy’s setup and explanation.

They seem to be much more popular with the fellas with the big bellies. I hunt a lot, all over the country, I can’t remember the last time I seen a fit/slim guy hunting 4 legged game in a pair of bibs.....the exception is duck hunters.
