So we hunt Amistad quite often, usually stay up drinking all night burning deadfall in the campfire and sleep in instead of hunting mornings. One of us always has a boat, sure would love to run out and catch some Crappie for a good shore lunch before heading out for an evening hunt. I've got some light fishing gear and lots of "Crappie stuff" just don't know how to find them and always end up catching Bass.

Small jigs over standing timber or brush piles usually works for me

If the hydrilla is like it was when I was there last January you’ll catch them pretty shallow around the grass. A beetle spin type bait slow rolled over the top of the hydrilla will do it, just a slow steady retrieve, if you tick the top of the grass every once in a while that’s even better. Color doesn’t matter as long as its black with chartreuse stripes.

Best place to catch them is up the Devil’s but it’s a haul from any of the hunting areas.
