The day started off very slow with a couple of small bucks and some doe. Around 8am there was only one deer left at the feeder and most of the corn was gone. I told my wife that it was time to wrap it up. I was getting ready to close the window on the blind and I spotted a mature buck coming in. Got the wife ready and she made a perfect shot. The buck went 15 yards and wadded up like a cheap lawn chair.
The evening hunt started off slow as well, with 2 nubbin bucks and a broke off 4 point. For 2.5 hours we sat with nothing other than a few pigs that came in. I told my wife to shoot one of the pigs. She said that she didn’t want to mess up the hunt for my big buck. At 5:40 I was thinking that we should just go back to camp and call it a day. I decided to open the window on the back of the blind to have a look behind us. As I opened the window I see this buck jump the fence behind the stand headed our direction. I immediately knew he was a shooter and wasted no time putting 123 gr 6.5 Grendel round in the boiler room. He dropped like a bad habit.
