Was the stomach punctured at all? Every time I've seen one act like yours the stomach is ruptured. A good tracker explained it makes their blood pressure drop and that's why they don't run far and get wobbly to the point that you think they are going to die any second. The stomach comes surprisingly far forward when you get down low and is easy to hit while still getting lungs.
