UTV and driving on road.. rules question

What does a UTV have to have in order to be road legal? Just a orange triangle? Just talking bout driving back and forth to the stand a mile away.

You can register it as a motorcycle in South Dakota and get a license plate for it to be road legal. Don’t have to be a resident neither.

If you're just using it in the described circumstance and you own the land, there may be certain ways to legally do it but you'll need to call your local county office

The main exception is if you’re a farmer or rancher, then it’s ok.

Turn signals, mirrors, etc. as well. Also, I believe there is a rule as to the air pressure in the tires.

It’s possible in Texas. I believe there is a write up on 2cool by a guy that accomplished this.

You have to retitle the utv, pay taxes again. Turn signals, mirrors, dot approved wheels and tires. Along with a lot more red tape.

In your case I’d just wing it.

I would ask a local sheriffs department
In port Mansfield , you need lights “ blinkers, break, and head lights then have the local police department ( port police) inspect and issue a permit)

No pics but I saw a rzr on the main lanes of 45S a few months ago.

There was also a guy on 2cool that got plates for his utv. He had a whole thread on it. Took some work but he did it

The local sheriff made me put on a orange triangle on back screen and also a triangle orange flag on 8ft pole. I drive 3 miles between my properties and never get bothered anymore. The law allows this if you are a farmer or rancher. Better have a bag of cubes in the back if your not the land owner, so you can say you going to check the cows.
