    MLD question

Now I know I am going to get mixed reviews from my question, but I need to ask it anyway. Lets try to keep it civil.

Is it effective to have a MLD program on 250 acres of low fence in Live Oak county?

The land is family owned and me and my bro will be the only hunters on it (except for the rare occasion my wife or his girlfiend hunt). We both can age bucks in the field.

It depends. Do you need more tags than your license gives you? If you are just wanting to implement a management program, I would recommend setting up a coop with your neighbors. But, if you do need to kill more deer than your license allows then this would be a program that you might want to take advantage of.

If you have more in depth questions here are the people to contact. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/landwate...ounty=live_oak

      Thanks Justin.

At this time I was just thinking of managing the land, but would need to do a sight survey to see if it has more deer than the carrying capacity can handle. I will look into contacting the TPWD biologists.

Here is something you might want to read also. This talks about the three different levels, and their benefits/requirements. This will give you an idea of what you are getting into before you pursue it further.

I don't know if there are acreage limits with the state to even get in the program, but most will tell you that you can't manage anything under a couple thousand acres. With that small a property you may have to work out some kind of coop with neighbors to get the manageable acreage up.
