    AC / Heating help needed

The heater in my house stopped working last night. When I switch to AC...the unit kicks on, blower works and starts cooling, but when I switch it to heat, nothing happens, no heat, no blower. Its an electric unit, only about 6 years old. I'm thinking the programmable thermostat may be the problem,

    Any input?

Is this a heat pump or just electric heat. Most all electric heat and heat pump units have a time delay blower relay, so even if your heat strips or heat pump unit doesn't work the blower with still come on after a few seconds. It sounds like your thermostat is not calling for heat. It could be your thermostat, or a wire has come loose from the thermostat to your unit.

Not a heat pump.....and the blower will not come on while in heat mode...it does when switched to cool...I'm thinking the thermostat too and or loose wire...never had a problem before

Thermostat is pretty cheap and really easy to install. Would be worth trying before calling a professional

I think you may try the heat pump, some kind of programmable thermostats...

I was going to post be sure to turn off your heater unit completely before replacing the thermostat. While the voltage is lower on those wires, shorting 2 together can fry components on the control boards at the thermostat or the heater.
