We manage a ranch's wildlife up here and get some hunting rights on it. Waited til this last week of the season for our deer hunt, pre rut kicks in somewhat and the mature bucks star staging with doe groups.
The spouse found this nice management buck and couldn't pass him up. He had about 15 doe bedded below him on the ridge. We rode right by them on the way in and spotted the buck bedded on the way out. It was about 50 ish degrees that day and nice weather for hunting.
That evening the weather blew in and it snowed all day Sunday, wind blew it all sideways, no hunting.
Monday morning woke to blue skies and 4 degrees with 5 inches of fluffy snow, just enough to limit our travel around the ranch. We found this nice youngish 4 pt with a few doe and he was not smart enough to vacate the area.
The 300wsm had no issues with the cold.
